The Why Men Project is more than a collection of websites. It is an institution built around a set of convictions about how people should be treated online. These promises guide our editorial decisions, our technology, our economic model, and the way we hope people experience every interaction with the project. They are promises we intend to be measured against.

We Promise to Seek Understanding Before Judgment

We believe understanding is the beginning of wisdom. Before we criticize, categorize, or condemn, we will strive to understand what another person is experiencing. We will not confuse curiosity with weakness or compassion with approval. Our aim is not to remove accountability, but to make accountability more accurate and more humane.

We Promise to Treat Men as Human Beings

Men are not stereotypes, headlines, statistics, or caricatures. They are sons, fathers, husbands, brothers, coworkers, neighbors, mentors, and friends. We promise to resist explanations that reduce men to a single motive or ideology and instead encourage perspectives that acknowledge the complexity of human experience.

We Promise That Money Will Never Buy Publication

Every perspective published by the Why Men Project must first satisfy our editorial standards. Contribution Credits help sustain the institution and support visibility after acceptance, but they never determine whether an idea deserves to be published. Our readers should be able to trust that every perspective earned its place.

We Promise to Build Better Incentives

We reject the idea that healthy online communities must depend upon surveillance, manipulation, outrage, addictive design, or endless advertising. We will continue pursuing business models that protect long-term trust, reward thoughtful participation, and reduce the incentives that encourage spam, trolling, and division.

We Promise to Welcome Thoughtful Disagreement

No single person has a monopoly on wisdom. We expect contributors to disagree. We believe honest disagreement, expressed respectfully and grounded in experience or careful reasoning, often produces deeper understanding than easy agreement. We will never require ideological conformity, but we will insist upon mutual respect.

We Promise to Steward This Project for the Long Term

Our ambition is not simply to build a popular website. We want to build something worthy of lasting. Every decision should strengthen the long-term health of the institution and increase its ability to help future generations understand men with greater wisdom and compassion.
